Dangers of eBike Batteries in New York
Hundreds of fires caused by electric bike batteries happen around the country each year. In just New York alone, eBike batteries have caused at least 200 fires, resulting in six deaths. These eBike batteries combust due to the lithium ion batteries that are used to charge them. In November, a fire brought about by an eBike battery caused serious damage to a high rise apartment injuring roughly 40 people.
It only takes seconds for a battery to burst into flames, which can cause a vicious fire to rapidly and abruptly spread throughout the building causing immense damage and personal injury. Many of the eBike batteries that are purchased are made by cheap manufacturers and sold online for hundreds of dollars less. These lithium ion battery packs contain closely bundled cells that hold energy as flammable chemicals.
We recommend you to invest in certified eBike batteries where they have been thoroughly tested to make sure they are safe and durable.
